It's a quiet Sunday afternoon with the I-Pod on "shuffle." In rapid succession it gives me "A Song For Europe" by Roxy Music, "China My China" by Brian Eno, and "Japan" by Be-Bop Deluxe. And that gets me to reflecting about all the great songs in my collection that have geographical locations in the title.
So let's toss 'em out there. I know we Kossacks have varied musical tastes. Keep it to songs with proper geographical names, rather than geographical features. Much as I like, say, "The Big Country" by the Talking Heads, it wouldn't qualify for this particular list.
And please, no "Hotel California"...
Here are some of my favorites in addition to the songs already mentioned, in no particular order:
"All The Way From Memphis" - Mott the Hoople
"London Calling" - The Clash
"I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea" - Elvis Costello
"Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead" - Warren Zevon
"New York City" - They Might Be Giants
"Cleveland Rocks" - Ian Hunter (and at the time, it did!)
"Detroit 442" - Blondie
"Mozambique" - Bob Dylan
"Tokyo Joe" - Bryan Ferry
"Dark Streets of London" - the Pogues
"California Man" - Cheap Trick (even if they are covering the Move)
And that's just off the top of my head.
Now you...
